Analog Paintings & Digital Prints

Victoria Hofstetter’s paintings and prints explore the connection between physicality and emotionality. The fragility of the self and our own mortality are addressed on the one hand, while on the other they are broken down and brutally questioned: “The aim is to bring back the profoundly omnipresent in an often superficial present and to sharpen the zeitgeist on the inner self.” In a further step – or perhaps a further break – Valentin Steiner’s re-interpretations of Victoria’s paintings are abstracted and distorted using digital processing: the end result can be located somewhere between design and glitch.

The two artists both grew up in Waldviertel, graduated from grammar school together, then lost touch, and have now found each other again through their artistic pursuits.
